Francesco Gennai

Francesco Gennai has worked for the Italian National Research Council (CNR) since 1984. He is responsible for the Internet Services Technology Center (ISTC, http://istc.isti.cnr.it) at the CNR Institute of Information Science and Technologies “A. Faedo” (ISTI, http://www.isti.cnr.it/).

He has developed highly reliable solutions for managing Internet Services, among which is the Internet Network Services Manager (INSM), an integrated modular system that simplifies the management of some internet services (such as email, DNS, web).

As expert network designer, over the years he has been involved in national and international computer network projects, including some with developing countries such as Albania (where he was the technical contact for the .AL TLD until 2008), Algeria, Nigeria and Egypt. He is consultant for academic, public and private institutions throughout Italy.

Currently

  • He is a member of the Italian Research Network (GARR) security group.
  • He is a member of the DigitPA-CNR working group on Certified Electronic Email (PEC).
  • He is in charge of the CNR Center that provides software and testing for Certified Electronic Email (PEC) on behalf of DigitPA.
  • He is in charge ofthe Agricultural Research Council (CRA) project on the “Development of integrated systems for scientific collaboration based on telematics networks.”

He is co-author of several articles presented in international conferences, as well as of the RFC 6109 on Certified Electronic Email (PEC).
